Grizedale Forest

Grizedale Forest is set between Lake Windermere and Coniston Water and is managed by the Forestry Commission. There is over 2000 hectares of beautiful forest to explore on the waymarked walking or biking trails. There are over 60 outdoor sculptures to discover on your walk or bike ride as well as a host of wonderful wildlife, from red kites to red deer, barn owls to bats. The North Face single track mountain bike trail and the Go Ape hire wire course are great for those looking for adventure. The Forestry Commission's forest shop and information centre at the main visitor centre is the best place to start your visit, where you can buy a trail map and the team can help you plan your day. You can hire a bike from the onsite shop, Grizedale Mountain Bikes and try the Cafe in the Forest for delicious homemade food. There's also an adventure playground and picnic site there, with other picnic sites at the car parks across the forest.
